The time is near

So, I have three weeks left of student teaching. Once that's done I'll have my teaching credential and ready to have my own classroom. Well, I shouldn't say ready. I'll be qualified to have my own class. I have definately learned a lot from when I started, but thinking about being a teacher still scares me. There is so much opportunity for greatness, but also so much for failure. I'll have so many people breathing down my neck. It seems like they want me to mess up or do something wrong. So before I do, anyone have some advice? Words of wisdom to the young teacher about to embark on a torturous adventure?

I'm not a teacher...yet. But all of my friends are.

As "W" would say, "stay the course." (No pun intended).

I wish I could tell you that it will be easy, fun, and rewarding.

It will be. But, there will be those days (trust me, my friends tell me all the time) when you just want to pack your bags and never see a classroom again!

But stick with it. My friends say that "seeing a child look at you with hunger for knowledge is something that only we as teachers are priviledged to see."

Those eyes make you forget the lame parents, the politics of the teacher's lunch room (just wait), and all other obstacles.

Anyhow, stick with it. I'd put my kid in your class anytime. except that since my dog can't be there, I guess he will have to do with the backyard.

Tim--being a teacher is great. I have taught every grade 1st through 8th--except 3rd and 4th.

i guess i am a positive person because i have never wanted to pack up and never see a classroor again.

my advice for your first few weeks as you get into the swing of things is to picture yourself in your student teaching situation where you knew what to do. always have the day fully (or overly) planned. when you have plenty of things planned for the kids to do they can't get into too much trouble. also, plan for the week, month, semester, and year. it's good to have a long range plan of what you would like the year to accomplish rather than going day by day or week by week. let me know if you need any materials or ideas.

Thanks guys. It's nice to hear encouraging words. I wish that the school district had that sort of vibe. I would probably be a lot less worried.

Jose, I don't think there is any sort of magic that can work its way through the district. It could help me win some of my students respect though. What is a trick that I can show them?

I meant for your students. We know that the district needs more than magic, they need a miracle of resurrection. Next time I see you remind be Ill teach you some stuff or give you a video that will teach you some cool stuff.

Peace,
Jose
